I don't care if DUST was looking like BF4. If I enjoy it, then I will enjoy it regardless of the prettiness of the graphics.
All of these guys going on about which game is prettier failed to notice 12,600,000 people bought Minecraft. 10,000 in the last 24 hours.
Anyone with half a brain in 3D Rendering also knows just how silly people are when they start talking in terms of graphics - the only reason there aren't games that have better graphics than Battlefield is because they're adhering to a Polygon/Animation budget (something Dust 514 has noticed graphics turned down for, like Dropship Propulsion and Repair Tool VFX). The last game that tried to leap bounds ahead of the average graphics card was Crysis and as a result it kicked the dicks in of anyone who tried to play it at the time, save for the elite.
Graphics don't make a game and having better graphics doesn't make a game any more or less playable. Cut the graphics and Battlefield 3/4 is just some half-hearted FPS game with no real drive other than shooting the other guy in the face for arbitrary Skinner's Box style rewards.
Edit: TL;DR Having better graphics than the competition just narrows your consumer base.

Edit: TL;DR Having better graphics than the competition just narrows your consumer base. Lets look at all the good games with Average/bad graphics. Arma Minecraft Terraria FTL Thomas Was Alone Counterstrike Half-Life TF2 Spacebase DF-9 Kerbal Space Program These games prove that graphics don't make the game. Neither do prescripted cutscenes, or QTEs. They engulf you in the Game itself, and get you to have fun with the game, and not the games areas where it doesn't let you do something. AAA games always, to me, seem to go "Restrict the players choices, that way we can get them to see what WE want them to see, feel how We want them to feel, instead of choosing how they want to enjoy the game. Point in case of a AAA game doing EXACTLY that? The vid in my last post.
Unfortunately most of the stuff you listed are PC games!! You kinda have to guide Console gamers around on a leash for them to feel like they get the full experience, which is incredibly unfortunate. A lot of people that play Dust 514 always seem to say the same thing: "There's nothing to do, there's no drive."
Which is contradictory to what the game itself offers - Eve Online, and subsequently Dust 514, don't give you any drive. You give yourself the drive. You're free to do whatever you want. Join a corporation and make a name for yourself, a reputation as it were. Fight for Faction Warfare and make a difference in the -huge- war that's going on.
The only REAL issue with Dust 514 at the moment is that most of that stuff isn't as noticable as we'd like it to be, but they're already working on that xD

Game mode variety makes it much less monotonous than DUST atm, regardless of how many skills you can upgrade. PC and FW don't help all that much either.
That's all well and good but at the end of the day no amount of game modes are going to give a player in Battlefield some sense of purpose - what's the point? Sure, Dust 514 is monotonous but it's the overarching scheme of things that matters. See my previous post =D

The only REAL issue with Dust 514 at the moment is that most of that stuff isn't as noticable as we'd like it to be, but they're already working on that xD The no drive has little to do with console gamers. It is a combination of three things First, this is a FPS with RPG elements which isn't common. One of the commonalities of RPGs is that they expect you to define who your character is. However, Dust 514 is an FPS mainly and thus will draw people who are interested in FPS games which normally provide other things to drive their players that Dust lacks. Second, as I said, other FPS games have something that Dust lacks. Immersion into the battlefield. Different FPS achieve this in different ways but the most applicable would probably be Battlefield due to Dust wanting to be of similar scale as BF battles. When you play Battlefield 3, you hear explosions and gunfire in the distance, your ears "ring" when an explosion goes off near you, most actions are accompanied by characters saying something such as yelling "I need a medic" when requesting support or your enemies yelling when you shoot them. All of this combines to make you feel like you are in an actual battle and that is more than enough to drive players. Third, as you said, a lot of Dust's drive is hidden and abstract.
Everything you mentioned in the second aspect can be utilized in a later expansion - CCP made it abundantly clear that they want the core game to work before going crazy with the new content. There's still a lot to go: Gas, lava, storm planets being a few awesome examples... MTACs, Fighters, Speeders... New weapons... Skyfire Battery... That's all in the future. It's not just a new map pack and releasing weaponry that wasn't done when the game released, this is constant free expansions and updates that will keep coming as long as CCP deems it necessary.
And hey, who's to say Dust 514 WONT be released for the PS4? They aren't working on it right now for obvious reasons - some of broke ******* can't afford to drop the money on a completely new console right now. I'm a PC gamer who bought the PS3 solely for Dust 514. Just saying, it's not that the option isn't available it's just not their focus right now.
Eve Online got the Trinity expansion which completely re-textured all of the ships, making a massive graphical improvement and ever since Retribution we've been getting all sorts of fancy new graphical elements - so you know they're not above doing it once they feel that the actual mechanics of the game are alright.
Hell, Battlefield 3 never even bothered to patch the obvious bugs in their single player - just getting the NPCs to load in is a task and half, so don't say that this is unique to CCP, lol.
